I just love mushrooms! I fnd them fascinating. Unfortunately this year in NJ we haven't had enough rain for them to make an appearance. However, I have a very odd mushroom that came up last year that I think is going to pop its head out of the ground today after a soaking rain a few days ago. At least I'm hoping it does!
Be careful about eating them though unless you know for certain they are edible. We studied a bit back in Colorado and could identify a few around our mountain cabin that went into our morning omelettes!
driving home from the river on saturday = just dusk... the magic smell of mushrooms greeted us on one of the canyons. All the wheat was being harvested and perhaps it was just something that smelled like them
Back in '71, that mushroom alone could have supplied the "family" at Lotus Point with hallucinogenics for a month. Okay, maybe a week. Okay, an afternoon, who's kidding who..
My first thought was of the little mouse in Bambi who finds shelter under a mushroom, hehe. Then I read all these comments about pixies and fairies, and realized I thought of a rodent, albeit a cute rodent. Great picture!

Yumm! Drizel some olive oil in that pan, chop that bad boy up and throw it in with some onions and garlic. :)
What a great shot! I think they look yucky, but they taste so good.

Oh my, I have really fallen behind on commenting. I have been reading your posts and enjoy them as always. I especially like the old pictures.
It does look huge and it needs a pixie underneath it. I guess they were just too shy to be photographed.
