Fun Monday - Sweet Eating

For this week's Fun Monday event Beckie, our hostess at Give It a Try, wants to know what your favorite treat is. Is it sweet or sour? Is it plain or salty? Is it candy or chocolate? Is it homemade or store bought? For instance, if your favorite is chocolate, tell us what kind specifically - sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes not so much. I have heard a lot of talk about Junior Mints, but is it your favorite or just a tasty treat? It can be anything, popcorn, peanuts, ice cream or chips, maybe you have more than one favorite - that is ok, just show us your favorite(s) and tell us why you like it so much. C’mon, what gets you all juiced up?

If I was still a drinking lady, I would say that Kahlua and Cream is my favorite treat. Now, I do not mean Kahlua and cream poured in a glass and mixed together. I mean that Kahlua is poured into a glass over ice and then cream is added ever carefully so that the the two are layered with Kahlua on the bottom and the cream or half and half as the top layer. For a year or so, Daddy D made me one of these every evening for an after dinner treat. As you can imagine this drink is calorie-laden. Perhaps, I gained ten pounds that year. However, when you drink this delight, some of the superb alcoholic coffee-flavored Kahlua slips into your mouth with a little bit of cream creating the most delightful sensation. Oh yes, this is soooo good. Daddy D, who has worked as a bartender but by day is a chemistry and physics teacher, would like to remind you that the cream is less dense than the alcohol so that the cream readily floats atop the Kahlua.

Although I no longer drink, I do enjoy some other tasty and maybe should be forbidden treats. As a child, Jujyfruits were my candy of choice at the movie theater. I liked all the flavors except the licorice fruits. To me, licorice tastes like dead bugs in lighter fluid. Daddy D gets to enjoy any licorice at our house as well as of few of the other delectable Jujyfruit flavors. I especially savored the green fruits, which used to be mint-flavored. The current Jujyfruit greens are lime-flavored. The lime is okay, but not refreshing like the mint greens of yesteryear.

Another favorite is raspberries and cream, which might be food of the the gods. Unfortunately, fresh raspberries are not available throughout the year. I did find and enjoy some of this fruit of paradise for this post. Hmmm...yum Finally, when we rent a movie, I like to have baked corn pops. One of the reasons that I like corn pops is that these kernels of air puffed corn almost melt in your mouth with a lovely buttery taste reminiscent of the best movie popcorn. Corn pops are tasty with any beverage. I like to have mine with Coke or O'Doul's, which is a non-alcoholic beer. Well, almost non-alcoholic, the O'Doul's label makes this claim, "Less than 0.5% Alcohol by Volume." O'Doul's is all right but nothing like Kahlua and Cream.

Oh my, you can't go wrong with raspberries and cream! I wish I would have thought of that one. I also like peaches and cream.

when the hubby eats Neccos, he always gives me the licorice. I love licorice.

I don't remember juju fruits having mint. I guess I never ate them when I was little

Your description of the Kahlua and cream was very enticing. Sometimes we put a little Kahlua on our Ice-cream as a treat. But, I'm not much for alcohol.

We grow lots of raspberries in my area, but I prefer blueberries. (I picked them for years!) Right now it's blackberry season. I love Tim's Cascade Chips, especially Wasabi and sea salt and vinegar. I love cheesecake, carrot cake, and apple crisp made with oatmeal and brown sugar. I am not as fond of pies. I especially hate lemon meringue pie because I can't stand lemon flavored anything. (or cherry, or lime) For candy bars, I am fond of Kit Kats, Caramellos(sp?) or anything that has chocolate truffle, caramel filling or coconut. Along with my whole family, I love black licorice, but despise the red. It's probably cherry flavored!

Hey if you don't want the licorice ones, I'll take 'em!

Did someone say "Kahlua and Creme and Raspberries?"
You can have my share of the licorice and I'll drink the Kahlua.

Those raspberries looked pretty tasty.
I love kaluha. I used to drink white russians which I think is a fancy name for Kahlua and Milk.

The raspberries and cream are an addition to the quality of life. Nice touch on treats to have for adding to quality and not just pigging out.

I absolutely love raspberries and cream! In fact, I have some waiting for me in the fridge right now. Mmmmm.

I have never had baked corn pops, they look yummy.

I like a little Kahlua poured over ice cream.

I don't like licorice flavour either, and I like your description of it.

I like popcorn puff snacks that melt in you mouth.

Raspberries and cream are awesome. I have been picking them here over the last couple of weeks. I also like all sort of other berries or fruit with cream.

I heart Kahlua! I love white Russians...I am totally trying what you described in such loving detail. I will toast you when I do!!!

I am with you on the licorice thing! Yuck!

Got sick on White Russian once, so Kahlua is totally off my beverage list.

Baked corn pops? Like...the cereal?

"licorice tastes like dead bugs in lighter fluid" *snort*

I love berry season, it's the best time of the year!

Loooooove raspberries and cream!!

And, hmmm, how 'bout white Russians? Mmmmm!!

Corn Pops hurt the roof of my mouth. Do you soak them in the beer to keep that from happening?

I do love dead bugs in lighter fluid, though. Mmmmm yummy!

The Juju Fruits reminded me of yet another (!) favorite, Hot Tamales.

The corn pops sound good. Is that the cereal or is it in the snack isle?

I love hot raspberry sauce on vanilla ice cream.

I lve mike and ikes. they reminded me of the jucy fruits that you have on your page. I can eat a box by myself!

Mmmmm. Kahlua and cream! That sounds decadent.

Today I discovered miniature peanut butter cups at Trader Joe's. They're tiny, packed with flavor and they melt on the tongue. I think they're going to become one of my favorites.

Ohhh, Molly, Kahlua and cream...that IS a treat!!! Yum! Yum!! Yum!!! I've never heard how to make one "correctly", I think we have enough Kahlua (and you KNOW I've got half and half) to make one. Tonight. In honor of YOU! (Is that okay, even though you aren't drinkin' anymore??

I can't eat JuJu's because they stick to my teeth so bad - it drives me crazy.

I like to put Kahlua over my ice-cream (hmmm...so does my mom, Pamela. That msut be where I learned it from). We made some last year for every family member. It was a successful gift!

Kahlua and Cream - my drink of choice (and maybe a Mudslide every now and then). In my younger years, my drinking buddies used to kid me about ordering "chocolate milk". Added note: You can buy it cheap in Bermuda and Puerto Rico - got two bottles just a few months ago but haven't cracked them open yet because I don't drink alone - only socially with others and no one has come over!

I shouldn't have read this on an empty stomach. I love Kalhua and cream. Maybe that explains my weight gain. Hmm.

Agh - licorice --- I'm SO with you on that one. Blech.

I've been having raspberries and strawberries every night. I love them. (it's my treat while trying to get rid of my spare tire.)

I could eat a bushel of raspberries with or without cream.
Nicely illustrated post.
Thanks for stopping in.

I agree with all of your goodies. Even with the licorice which is not one of my favorites either. My mom sure liked it though.

dead bugs in lighter fluid? the obvious question is when have you tasted this concoction - after too many Kahluas? :-)

no wonder you don't like black licorice.

jujus good. raspberries bad.

It looks like you're ready for a late-nite movie with that kalua and cream. It all sounds good to me - perhaps it's because of your description. :)
