Fun Monday - Don't Leave Home Without It.

This Fun Monday hostess is the creative and candid Karina. For the challenge this week, Karina wants to see our security blankets or the things that we must positively take with us when we leave our homes. At first, I declined participation in this challenge because I could not think of anything that I absolutely need to have at all times. However after thinking this through, there is one item that I always, always have. I always have my glasses. Usually, I am wearing my specs because seeing at all times is very important to me. I used to have 20/20 vision. As I aged, like most (ah) mature adults, I developed presbyopia. At first, I needed the correction for reading and close-up work, but eventually my vision changed such that I needed correction for all distances. My glasses have progressive lens that allow me to see close-up, faraway, and in between. I wear my glasses during all my waking hours. If I am asleep, my glasses are on my nightstand, and I wear my glasses if I get up in the middle of the night. So my security really is vested in my glasses because they allow me to see almost as well as I used to see.

In addition to the glasses, when I leave my house on a work day, there are some things that I should take with me such as my purse, my phone, my personal keys, my school keys, and my ID.

On Sundays, I take these items to church, a satin purse, my flash drive, (I create PowerPoint announcements for our worship services) and whichever book that we are studying in our adult class. We currently studying The Faiths of Our Founding Fathers by David L. Holmes.

Now, check out what our other Fun Monday buddies need for security.

Well at least this is more like real life. For some reason people are trying to appear minimalist.

I wear progressive lenses too, and they change color in the sun. (turn into sunglasses) It is pretty cool, since I've always been too lazy to wear sunglasses.

I realized I needed glasses when I couldn't read the back of the aspirin bottle. Ugh. I faked it as long as I could, though.

Those ID badges have become a part of our apparel now, haven't they?

I am with you on the vision thing, if I hadn't had lasik surgery I would have to have my contacts or glasses. But really my glasses were such strong prescription that I couldn't function well wearing them. I also had agstimatism. The peripheral vision with glasses was just too much for me to handle. It made me sick feeling and hard to judge distances. Course I always have my cell phone too, I could live without it as far as me calling someone, but everyone wants to be able to contact me when necessary.

Very good insight. Glasses are a key to very thing else. Seeing is required to get through the day no matter what, work-day or play-day.

Ah yes, mature vision. I am still at the squint until I can kind of make out the letters stage, but every day it's a little harder.

Dang. It will just be one more thing to lose.

I didn't even think of mentioning my glasses. I ALWAYS have them on so they are sort of like part of me. I hate not being able to see.

Have a great Monday!

fortunately for me, my close vision is perfect... as long as my distance vision is uncorrected. oh argh. aging eyes are the pits.

I never even thought of my "seeing" glasses. Just the sunnies. I will probably go blind before I remember to wear them.

That's a neat key chain thingie!!! [I have a book in my glove box at all times too. But nothing that is 'required' reading]

ah, glasses. i haven't left home without glasses since i was in third grade.

it seemed funny to me that you have to bring a flash drive to church, so i'm glad you explained why.

I don't know why I didn't mention my glasses. I guess I'm still in denial.

I like your little satin purse. My next shopping trip, and I detest shopping, will be for a new purse.

Like Beckie I didn't include my glasses because I think of them as part of my clothing...I wouldn't leave the house without a shirt on, and definitely not without my glasses either...but I should have included them because it would have been an excuse to show off all 5 pairs I own...lol

OH, and I meant to tell you, the keychain/chapstick thing I have on mine today...my mom got that as a freebie for a "heart walk" she did, and gave it to me. I love it and hope it never breaks because I wouldn't know where to get another one!

I never leave home without a book.

That's just good sense.

Know what you mean about the glasses. My husband, who is short-sighted, can't even get out of bed without his. Everything is a blur. On the street he would be an accident waiting to happen.

Ah yes, the ever present glasses. LOL! Faith of the Founding Fathers looks like an interesting book.

Thanks for visiting my blog

I wear contacts, but if I leave my junk sunglasses, I'm blinded by the sun. Bright lights do me in.

Glasses, glasses, glasses. Thank goodness we all live in the here and now or we'd be sitting on the porch listening to some young'un read to us. Great post.

I like others didn't even think of including my contacts. They've been a part of my life since 4th grade and I don't even think of them as separate. I guess they are the only true essential! Well...maybe not!

Cool, I should have added a small stitching kit, I usually have one with me. :)

I really should have put my sun glasses in my post because I rarely leave the house without them. The book looks interesting, I always have a book on hand to read. Great post!

Gosh, think about how this compares to what you'd take even ten years ago! No flash drive, no cell phone (ours was a bag, I think, and I thought THAT was something!). My how times change.

Just like your eyes ;).

that looks like what i would take for the most part... though i do have a few extras;)

I had to leave my school ID in my car, I was always leaving it places. I love how you have different bags for different needs. I should be organized like that...

Hoorah for whoever invented glasses where would be without them. They were top of my list although I don't have to wear them all the time. I like your Timberland bag, I noticed they had opened a new timberland store at our local Mall I must look inside next time I visit.

That book looks interesting. Guess you found a few more items than you expected to. I had to pass. it would have been too silly to post a picture of the stuffed gorilla I cannot sleep without. He's 19 yrs old and I have loved the nose off his furry face.

debi said...

Oh gee, I didn't do that right. I only have to take Monkey with me if I will be spending the night away from home. He had to go to Albuquerque with me last week. My grandchildren laughed at me. I did feel kinda silly. Okay, as well I should have.I admit it.

I am fortunate not to have to wear glasses...yet. I think the time is coming as I uh...mature :-)

It is good to have your ID with you at all times. You never know when you are going to forget who you are LOL

your church class sounds interesting. what other books have you studied?

It is nice you have a special purse for church. Half the time, my purse does not match how nicely I am dressed. I am trying to be a little more fashionable by just taking my wallet on a string.

I like how everything has purpose and utility. Although there's a few things there to tote about, they all have a reason.

I wish I had time to read...I always feel smarter and seem to use better vocabulary when I'm in the middle of a reading project or a good book, even if it is not for pleasure.

Note to self: buy chapstick and read more.

Very compact...so different from the contents of my bag.
