Fun Monday - Big and Bad

This week's Fun Monday host is the kind and compassionate, Jan of The Prytz Family. For this Monday's assignment, Jan is asking that we answer the question, "What is the quirkiest thing in your home that you will never give away?"

For your viewing pleasure, I submit two items. This Big Boy bank is from my oldest son. Big Boy is or was a mascot for a sandwich that was sold at several restaurant chains including Shoney's and Frisch's. I think that this Big Boy is from Azar's, which was a popular food chain in Indiana. Dean gave this to me as a gift for Mother's Day, when he was in high school. Who wouldn't love such a unique gift? Additionally, this reminds of some good old days of my youth when drive-in restaurants were the rage. You could even order a Big Boy hamburger with fries, and the server would bring your order right out to your car.

Another treasure that I will keep forever was painted by my creative sister-in-law, REM. The very first car that I paid for myself was a 1970 Gremlin made by American Motors. My sister-in-law thoughtfully painted a toy Gremlin to match my cute little car, which looked like a toy itself. My car did not have the supercharger as featured on the toy. Unfortunately, the real Gremlin as cute as it was never ran very well. Maybe the car would have run better with a supercharger. The bright green finish on the Gremlin was called Big Bad Green. Isn't that a great name for a wonderful color? (We did get rid of the car, but the toy Gremlin sits atop my computer.0

Molly I just caught this as I was closing down for the night!

The big boy bank is rather cute, gifts from our children are always so precious. I love your little green gremlin and how great to have a toy one as a memento!

What a wonderful post! I love your green gremlin! :) I wish I had a green gremlin in either form! Thanks for the link to your blog!

Yep, I'm sure you'll keep these. You can even save money with the bank. In Southern California we actually have a chain, called Bob's Big Boy, they're sit down hamburger joints. Thanks for playing, today.

That Big Bad Green Gremlin was a really "HOT" car. Black sweaty seats and no air conditioning. It had a very fine look to it, however.

I love the memories, especially of the drive ins that brought the food out. We had an AW like that; it had trays that hooked onto the window. Very cool. The green Gremlin is quite amazing. We had a silver Vega that we called The Silver Bullet.

Oh my goodness Molly! You and the Big Boy bank have got me thinking about the hot fudge/ice cream and brownie cake. Always wanted to be thin enough that I wouldn't feel like the people in the next booth were probably saying "What's that big ole girl doing ordering hot fudge cake?"! As for the Big Bad Green Gremlin, I had a comparable car. In 1969 my first new car was a Ford Maverick, the color? Anti-establish Mint.

Hi Molly, I am just catching your FM post. What a blast from the past. We had a Bob's Big boy in our neck of the woods, many years ago. That is one hot green Gremlin.

we have a little drive up in town where the food comes out to a tray that sets on your window. I don't eat red meat, but they have some other great sandwiches. It is fun. Except when its hot out or cold out.
(I've got such a narrow comfort zone)

I remember those little gremlins.
someone I knew had a funny orange one.

My brother had a Gremlin in the early 70's too. It was yellow and I think it has four doors plus the hatch.

I just LOVE your quirky things. It's so fun to show and tell stuff like this, isn't it?

Thanks for the visit yesterday. It's always great to have you stop by for company. I would think it's great to have a child born on a special day like Valentine's Day.

Love he bank! I had heard that Gremlins didn't run very well. I love the Big Bad Green! It really kinda reminds me of my first car, a Capri.

LOL! Your gremlin is very green indeed! Mine is black and small and answers to the name "Miko"!

I saw the Big Boy and the memories started flooding back. We had a big boy restaurant/drive up in a town we visited every summer.

As for the Gremlin, I love it!! We had a friend that had a red one. Oh my, the memories.

These may be on the quirky list, but maybe I am just quirky. Thanks for these!!

Well, there I was jettisoning along in Cyberspace when I spied the "Big Bad Green Gremlin"!

Finally after all these years I have run across another Gremlin owner. Mine was white with a red stripe and I loved it. I was the object of humiliation and ridicule mind you....but I loved it. Not the humiliation and ridicule, but the Gremlin.

Years later I also bought a Dodge Omni and it reminded me a lot of the old Gremlin. Didn't ever name my Gremlin but it was a great little car!
