Fun Monday - Who Am I?

Ari of Beyond Slab is this week's Fun Monday host. For this Monday's challenge Ari is asking, "If you could click your heels three times, and change lives with any character from any film, who would it be and why?"

I love this topic because this reminds me of many happy moments from my childhood. When I was young in the 1950's, we lived about a half mile from a neighborhood movie theater. Every Saturday afternoon, my older sisters and I were allowed and even encouraged to go to the matinee showing of that week's second run movie. I remember leaving the theater imagining that I was the heroine or female lead whether that was the spunky Lilly in Kiss me Kate or the lovely Nora Bayes in Shine on Harvest Moon. As a child without hesitation, I would have chosen to be Milly played by Jane Powell in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Milly was pretty, had the voice of an angel, and was determined woman. As a teen like many of my friends, I dreamed of being a Southern belle with a tiny waist like the infamous Miss Scarlett.

However, my choice today would be to brave and heroic like the warrior Guinevere played by Keira Knightley in the 2004 rendition of King Arthur. Another inspirational brave lady is Gladys Alyward in The Inn of Sixth Happiness, who was a real-life heroine instrumental in saving 100 some Chinese orphans from the Japanese invaders during World War II by leading the children over difficult mountain trails of war torn China. The bravery and commitment of Gladys Alyward was amazing.

Thanks, Ari for this fantasy excursion. Now, I am off to read about the characters other participants have chosen. This certainly is a fun adventure for a rainy Monday evening.

All your ladies are strong people! Even whiney Scarlett was stronger than she knew... I loved Scarlett as a teen, but as I got older, I found her somewhat annoying. And obsessive. I liked Belle Watling!

I haven't seen that version of King Arthur - I should rent it!

Re: your comment - I actually haven't seen Saving Grace. I was very excited to see the series coming, but when it arrived, I somehow always missed it. I need to start at the beginning - DVDs maybe... and get caught up!

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness is such a good movie. It was incredible how she managed to get to China despite the fact that the the mainstream charitable agency didn't think a maid was good enough to be a missionary. She had guts.

You reminded me of a pleasant afternoon diversion as a child in the 50s as well,Molly. Only I caught a Greyhound bus into town to see a matinee all by myself at the only movie theater in town. Your favorites were not movies that I got to see, but mine also had beautiful strong women and handsome men like Rock Hudson.

Hope the new house is beginning to feel like home.

Now I feel so guilty -- going with my lustful nature, instead of like you. choosing the strong and inspiring women. (:

You've reminded me how much I loved getting lost in in all those films as a teenager and imagining I was the heroine. We used to advertise the cinema programme in our shop and in return we got a couple of free tickets which in the 50's was well worth having. Mostly I had to go to the Sat matinee but sometimes my mother let me go to an evening show as a treat.

I'm too much of a fraidy cat to be a heroine. (but they sure are fun to watch in the movies!)

I will go for either Superman or Batman. Maybe, Batman because he is the smarter of the two.

I always liked Milly, too. I even tried to convince Luke that Millie would be a great name for Kara, before she was born. He wasn't buying it, though.

These days, I would probably go with someone like Jodie Foster from "Silence of the Lambs." She was pretty bad-@$$ in that movie!

An Original recording of a Lady GaGa Hit was Dug Up this afternoon with no traces of where it came from.
Some say that it was leaked from GaGa's Record Label's headquarters.
