Final February Fun Monday

For our last Fun Monday in February on the last day of the month, I would like to hear about an early childhood memory. If you would like to participate in this event, please sign-up using the Mr. Linky widget. Georgia Girls of In Good Company have graciously volunteered to be our hostesses for the month March. Also, the list of participants is below my memory.
My very earliest memory is of an incident that occurred when I was about 18 months old. I have been told that I fell down the basement stairs at that age. Although I do not remember the actual fall, I do remember opening the basement door and closing it. For a moment, my little feet stood on the ledge or doorsill. I remember being delighted and amazed at being clever enough to enter the forbidden passage; and then, I remember loosing my footing. However, I do not remember the fall or any pain. Nor, do I remember from my own recollection the rest of the story.

But, this was the family tale. My mother was working as a nurse's aide when I fell. She called to ask my dad how things were going while she was at work. My father reported about my mishap. When my mother asked if I was badly injured, my father replied, "She must be all right as she is eating several pancakes." The story goes that my mother was more upset about her baby eating pancakes than the actual fall.

Note: In the picture are my grandparents and my father.

This is a good one Molly! Sometimes think I live in the past. And, I'm with Joan and Sayre--thanks for hosting Fun Monday. It's a bit of weekly pressure for all us bloggers who want to keep FM going, but this monthly hosting sure helps. I love the way the host's topics reflects her/his personality and interests. Good way to get to know each other better.

Molly !
I signed up and then realized I had promised to post my American Idol Party.
This is a wonderful topic and have loved reading about everyone's memories.
I have many, but mostly bedtime and having to take naps.
Hunting Easter eggs with my cousins, and believing in Santa Claus until I was nine years old.
I hope posting here will make up for not creating a post at my place.
While I'm here, if you want to join the fun, I'll be posting the first installment of this season's American Idol Craziness.

I often wonder how old we have to be before we actually remember events or is it just, as you say, tales that are passed through the family. At any rate, I have vivid memories of childhood even before 4 yrs. of age. Chuckled at your mother questioning pancakes as a treatment plan! Seemed like a good one to me.

I'll have my FM post up tomorrow afternoon. Have an Academy Awards post up that I want to keep above the fold for a bit first.

well my grand kids sure think pancakes are the cure for all that ails them on any given evening at grandmas. (breakfast for dinner is their favorite meal.)

I forgot to mention breakfast for dinner when my Dad was out of town...when he was home, it was meat, potatoes, veggies, and a salad.

Thanks for yet another memory and for hosting during Feb. I apologize for going AWOL - I was at school for 3 weeks.

I fell down the back steps once. They were brick, and I'm pretty sure I got banged up, but I don't remember anything about it. At least past the initial thought that I could fly....

FUnny that your mom was upset about the PANCAKES!

That is amazing you can remember back at such a young age. I think its great that FM is still going, I have been away so long I always forget about it. Maybe its time to come back. I can remember falling as a kid and my mom putting that red stuff on the scrape and it would burn like heck!!! Mercurcrom or Methaolaid(I have no idea of the spelling)

How funny! Your father's way of responding to the accident, nonchalant, and your mother's reaction. :) Pancakes are comfort food, right?

Hey Swampy, As always, thanks for the memories. I gave up on Santa relatively early, but hunting for Easter Eggs is wonderful. We enjoy coloring and hiding eggs with our granddaughter.
