" I 'm back...again."

Lisa has us answering the question, “Why do you blog?” for this Fun Monday assignment.

Disclaimer: As I have answered this question in one of my initial posts, I am more or less repeating an one of my earliest posts on Return of the White Robin. So for this Fun Monday post, I might be cheating...once again. This entry refers to one of my first Fun Monday posts. I continue to blog partially because the kind of camaraderie that exists with blogging buddies including the Fun Monday crew.

Alas, I am back. As you know robins return in the springtime, and spring is here at last with figuratively and literally. In the summer of 2006, I started a blog called The Spring of the White Robin. As fall arrived, keeping up with my job as a seventh grade science teacher, carrying out various responsibilities at church, and maintaining the blog became difficult. Something had to go; so the blog was shut down on September 23, 2006. You know robins fly south for the winter. Now, that spring is here robins return as is my personal blog. Besides, I want to play a blog game called Fun Monday. Tristan of Brothertons asks the players to describe, "how would you like to wake up?"

What follows is my first entry on The Spring of the White Robin, which includes an explanation of the blog name and how I started blogging. Why in the world would a sixty year old woman want to start a blog? Well, my involvement with all of this originated from reasons other than starting my own blog although my reasons are related to the world of blogdom. My original goal was merely to be able to comment on another blog. A friend had written a blog, and I desperately wanted to leave my own gems of wisdom as a comment. This particular blog at the time only allowed comments from members from the Blogger.com community. So I registered, enrolled, and logged-in with a display name, username and, of course, a clever as well as secret password.

All right, fine, so how was Spring of the White Robin born? Well, among other things, I imagine myself as a great writer. Okay, so my writing is not so great, but I have a great title. Strangely enough, there is such a bird as a white robin. Maybe there is not an all white robin, but there are robins with white feathers where other robins have red feathers, a robin white breast so to speak. So in my fantasy world where I AM the great writer, I write a tale for preteens about a young girl having grand adventures and creating splendid inventions during the spring, in which our heroine simultaneously discovers a pair of white robins. Of course, my novelette is adored by young girls everywhere; and thus, I am an instant success. By now, if you have read this far, you may be thinking, “Why in the world would a sixty year old woman want to start a blog? The white robin story s*cks.” I have to admit that Blogger has seduced me with the opportunity to post my picture. Even though I am old and gray, I like this picture taken by my photographer son. And the overalls are one of my favorite things to wear. Hence, this blogging began as the desire to comment and as the vanity of having my picture along side my profound, humorous, and more often than not boring comments.

Final Note: Although this entry refers my desire to be a great writer, I really do not cherish the act of writing itself. I know several bloggers that enjoy blogging as an outlet for their wonderful and clever writing. I mostly blog to communicate with others.

I remember that post! I had discovered your blog just before you quit. I was delighted to see you back, just like the birds who return in the spring. I blog for a variety of reasons, but mainly because I'm fascinated with people.

Hey I remember that post too, and that's really saying something because I normally can't even remember where I left my underpants (I'm going to have to buy a second pair if it keeps up!)

I like the communicating more than the writing.

I like your writing. It is thoughtful. Your the best at everything that you do. And you do do it all.

I missed you terribly when you were gone, even though you continued to comment. Thanks for getting me started in this venture, Mjd.

Well written! And your reasons for blogging are just fine! I love to write on my blog more than I like to write comments, but I sure love receiving comments from others.

I really enjoyed your back-to-school post. I just spent most of the afternoon catching up on lesson plans. Cute picture!

I don't remember the post....'cause I just "met" you for a short time ago. But, in all honesty, I love your writing style.

Happy FUN MONDAY

Your comments are not boring! and I'm glad you're part of the blogging world. I blog for the self-expression, my husband blogs "for the dialogue". Which probably tells you something about our respective characters!

It's funny how so many people fell into blogging because they had to create an account to be able to comment.

I think you are a good writer.

I can remember how sad I was when you closed up shop and excited when you came back. You aren't leaving again for the fall are???? (Please say no)

it keeps eating my comments :(

Anyway, I'm glad to now know there really is a white robin and I love that blogging has no age limitations.

Your comments and posts are great. Not only that, but you're the only teacher I've ever liked. ;)

Awwwwww, Captain Corky's comment is wonderful! (And I totally believe it :) ).

I remember reading this before, too...I'm wondering if I commented the first time around.

Hmmmm, the name of your blog has always intrigued me...wonder why? :) (did I already say that???).

You are one of the warmest commenters out there, Molly...that's a GREAT thing!

I was certainly reading your blog back then but I don't remember if I ever commented before your Fun Monday post. I'm glad that there are other mature bloggers because sometimes I feel maybe people will think I'm a bit weird following all the youngsters who are the same age as my daughters but it's the 'granny' in me that loves hearing about families.

I think it's as good a reason to write as any, and maybe better *grin* I think I remember reading that post as I was cruising your blog to learn more about you. Either way, I think it's great, and it was so nice to see you back.

I'm blogging for the communication, too. I have no aspirations to be a great writer. And that's certainly a good thing as I'm definitely not!!!

I like that you can log onto your computer and be a part of so many different worlds, yet never leave your living room. I have a three year old so the only traveling I'm doing is on blogs!

I like this Fun Monday stuff! It's all new to me and so far, I'm enjoying it. I really like your blog and am sure I'll be back to check it out again often. (BTW, I love the African Queen too!!! Did you know the actual boat is tied up at a dock in Key Largo? It is. I've seen it. You can even go out on it if you have the $)

I saw a robin the other day with mostly white motteling on it's breast. i wondered if it was young or old... or just an oddity.

Maybe it wasn't even a robin???

by the by.. we have some robins that winter over here. I'm thinking about putting out mealy worms and dried cherries to encourage them to hang around my hard and not the neighbors across the street. He has dried fruit hanging on his trees.

oops... and I didn't even mention your fun monday post.

You always write wonderfully - and I enjoy the clarity, and the fact that I always understand what you're attempting to get across.

I love your posts and your comments! I too like communicating more than the writing!

I know I haven't found the balance yet partly due to being so new and my addictive personality. I truly feel that I am closer than ever at figuring out my balance with it. I know I need the balance and that I also need to continue as a way to vent and interact with others. Where there is a will there is a way and I will find my way to continue blogging! Thank you so much for your supportive words!!!

Willowtree wears underpants?

And your writing is wonderful - not to mention that you leave great and thoughtful comments. How interesting that it led to your own blog beginnings!

I think that would make a great story or series. Maybe someday you will have time to write it. If you do, I hope you will let me know.

I don't know how I missed (or maybe I forgot) that you are a 7th grade science teacher. How fun! When I was in 7th grade, we studied Life Science. I much prefer the "life" sciences to chemistry, physical science, and all those non-life types:o) Have you ever done the JASON Project with your students? It's geared toward middle school students, and we had so much fun with it the three years we participated.

You do not suck. It is always good to see someone realizing their dreams, like writing.
