On Mondays, We Wash Our Clothes.

Jan of The Prytz Family is the host of this Monday's big event. For our task this week, Jan is asking us about our laundry rooms.

Last July, we moved to a new house. Since July, I have been planning a post to show the Internet all of the lovely facets of our new home. Unfortunately, that entry has not been written, but here are the details about laundry at the new house. First, the dirty clothes go into this convenient seagrass hamper in the bedroom. At the old house, the dirty clothes were collected in a plastic laundry basket at the bottom of the bedroom closet.

The laundry area in the new house is on a platform in our attached garage. At the old house, the washer and dryer were in the basement. After removing the clothes from the washer, they go straight into the dryer, and some clothes are taken out of the dryer mid-cycle to air dry on the clothes rack to the left in the picture. (No hanging clothes on the line outside for me. Yes, I know that the air-dried sheets smell wonderful, but I like to avoid bird poop on the laundry.)

In addition to washing clothes for my husband and myself, I wash a few coats for a charity, Coats for Kids (and families), started by our church. Our relatively new Whirlpool Cabrio washer has a big 4.6 cubic foot tub that is useful for washing gently used coats for our yearly giveaways.

(Note: The Fun Monday sticker is part of an embroidered picture that my mother made before I was born.)

I like your area and it's drying rack... Wondering what the reason is for having the w/d raised up on a platform like that. Isn't it harder to get into? Of course, I'm rather short, so a question like that would pop into my head immediately!

I didn't plan for a laundry room, I have a small washing area. I seldom use the washing machine that I have as I prefer handwashing my clothes.

The drying rack is a great idea. I haven't had a clothes line in over 40 years. Bird poop is only one of the reasons!

I don't mind doing laundry in the garage - but it isn't the warmest place in winter. We do have a heater out there to keep everything from freezing, tho.

Good for you -- doing the coats for kids.

That's a very nice laundry basket! I have a small laundry room and would like a bigger one.

That's a very neat washing corner ! and a good idea to hang up clothes when they are half dried !

Being on one level is a labor saving arrangement. I can only guess that, in that, that work is skill level labor for which I am not allow to touch. Red and white do make pink, right?

Good for you being involved with the Coats for Kids program. I too was involved with the program at a company I worked for in MD. It is such a good cause.

It looks like you have quite a bit of room in your laundry area. Since I was using my clothes drying rack almost 95% of the time. I actually just made the decision to get rid of it and use the space for storage instead.

I'm doing laundry right now, but it's mostly bibs, towels, and washcloths.
