Fun Monday Assignment - February 21 Inventions and Tools

As I continue my adventure of being the Fun Monday host for February 2011, here is the assignment for our third Monday in February. Tell us about your favorite invention or tool. Why have you selected this device? If possible, show us a picture of the invention or tool.

If you are willing to participate, please sign-up using the Mr. Linky widget. After you have posted your entry, be sure to visit the other participants. After this week, there will be one more Monday in February, please let me know in the comments if you are willing and able to be our host for March. (Our list of  this Fun Monday participants is below my favorite tool.)

My favorite tool is this hammer, that belonged to my father. This wonderful hammer, which I think is technically called a ball peen hammer, is a number of tools in one.

The handle unscrews and inside is this useful screwdriver.

You can unscrew the end of this screwdriver and inside is a somewhat smaller screwdriver.

In turn, the end of this screwdriver unscrews and inside is yet another screwdriver.

Finally, you can unscrew the end of this relatively small screwdriver

and inside as you have probably guessed is yet another screwdriver.

Although having a five-in-one tool may be extremely useful, this is my favorite for two reasons other than utility. First, this belonged to my dad, who has a kind and gentle man, Second, this hammer and screwdriver set delighted me as a child. Having this lovely tool provides me with fond memories. I can remember being so enchanted with taking apart each tool only to find yet another.

March is too busy for me, with wedding and Korean visitors... I'd say go with the Georgia Girls!

nice! I have a screwdriver that you can flip end for end to get either phillips or flat head, and then on the other side is a smaller version of each one as well. Very handy! I have my very own tool kit, I got it for Christmas when I went to college, my family thought I was kidding, but it was what I really wanted. Recently my hubby has used it more than me, but I still like having it and knowing where 'my' tools are!

There are never too many tools. The limit is places to put those tools. Of course, the use of tools is the main thing. Functionality.

How cool is that? Kind of like one of those Russian dolls. What a treasure item for you! I posted my gadget.

My grandmother gave me something similar a long time ago. It wasn't a ball peen - just a regular hammer with claw on the other end. And it only had two screwdrivers in it. Unfortunately, it didn't have that long, lovely handle, so there wasn't much weight behind the swing. I did use the screwdrivers a lot though and the hammer for very little jobs! Wow. I haven't thought about that in a long time.

What a treasure to inherit, Molly. I can see you slipping that fine hammer in your belt loop and getting at those DIY chores. The only tool that I have is a multi use carpet lifter, wallpaper scraper that I inherited from friend Sherry.

sorry I once more didn't participate. But wow... I sure loved seeing your dad's amazing wonder tool.

I've never seen anything like it.
