Fun Monday - Bigfoot Lives

The lovely Robin of Pensieve is sponsoring this week's Fun Monday. Robin tells us,"Shoes tell a lot about a person and we wanna delve deeply into your soul sole. Photograph your favorite pair--or pairs--of shoes and tell us a little about why they're near and dear to your heart toes." Robin is also encouraging us to make a foot-family portrait...show us your baby bronzed booties.

Okay, here we go. I have big fat feet. As long as I can remember, I have had relatively big feet compared to the rest of me. (In old age, the rest of me is catching up with my feet.) In this black and white photograph, I am sitting in between my two sisters in a pair of Christmas pair of mukluks. I believe mukluks are soft-soled shoes or slippers that look like boots. Frequently, mukluks have rabbit fur; mine were furless. Other shoes that I remember wearing as a child are saddle shoes, which I hated and penny loafers, which I loved. After running down the backs of my loafers in one week, I was forbidden from wearing the fashionable shoe with the bright shiny pennies.

Many shoes and some 50 years later, my shoes are worn mostly for comfort. My big fat feet tend to hurt at age 60. I have been to a podiatrist and have followed a suggested course of action to remediate my aching feet. I have worn sensible shoes. I have tried orthotics and exercise. After a year or so of the doctor-directed cures, I have started my own regimen to rejuvenate these tired old feet. My plan consists of wearing sandals during warm months and Crocs during colder months. In addition to my shoe selection, I have found that a pedicure has at least temporary curative powers. First, the foot massage is soothing. And, exfoliating and the beautiful OPI polish is uplifting to this old girl's sole(s). The shade featured in the following photos is Peru-B-Ruby.

Teva makes a very comfortable flip-flop.

Occasionally, a shoe like this works for my poor old feet.

Crocs are relatively inexpensive so I have a few pairs.

Now, sandals and ugly Crocs are fine for work. But a night on the town calls for something a little special like these black satin high-heeled sandals.

Finally, look at these very cute soccer-playing feet of my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter.

If you really like shoes, visit the other Fun Monday participants. You will find a list of the foot people at Robin's place.

Don't feel bad about your feet. I have size 10.5 EEE.

As for sandles, you might want to try Birkenstock. I have heard them advised for painful feet.

My feet aren't big, but they are wide. I tend to wear Sauconys to run in, and lots of flat shoes that my orthotics fit in. I love Clarks clogs, but if I wear them too much, my right foot starts hurting. (needs that orthotic for the arthritis) Getting old is no fun! Looking at your photos, I've decided that I need a pedicure!

Those very nice feet go with the rest of a wonderful grandma. Shoes are just like tools. They do a job for you. And like tools, you can not have too many shoes that work for you.

I've pre-written my Fun Monday - just waiting to take pictures. I'm not sure why I bothered though - you could have written it for me! Unlike me, you are nice to your feet. I've never painted my toenails or had a pedicure - but a foot massage sounds heavenly!

I'll post mine in the morning after I get my pictures.... You'll see!

Wow, such nice colored toenails!

My mom and sisters all have size 6-7 feet and I have these big huge size 9 honkers. (okay, they feel big when you come from a family with small feet).

Your feet are looking pretty doggone fine to me! WOW!

I worked at an Easy Spirit store for two years. Officially, the most popular shoe size among women is a size 10. Where we women got off thinking little feet were "in" I'll never know. :)

Your feet don't looks so bad, wait just a minute while I get my glasses....Jeeeeezzzzussss!!!!

Just kidding! I'm thinking of getting some Crocs, but I've never actually seen a pair in real life yet.

All these posts about Crocs are convincing the cheapy in me to get some. Thank goodness stores are closed right now!

Love the pedi, great color. Jealousy abounds from your post!!!

Ohhh.. my achin' feet.
I may have surgery on one -- actually considering having an artificial arch put in my left foot.

Your feet look pretty nice compared to mine. (I never wear polish because I'm allergic to it... isn't that the pits?)

OMG ---boy, do I remember Mukluks and saddle shoes...ya know?---I've seriously considered buying some saddle shoes once again....but I talked myself out of them, thinking they were 'too young' for me at nearly 60. LOLOL I think I'm right too.

This is a GREAT fun Monday!! Love how you incorporated the styles of yesteryear.

I got crocs this summer and boy are they comfy. I'd love a pedicure but they are very expensive here.

Your feet look just fine and ooo-la-la on the nail color. Hubby calls mine platypus for a reason - wide.

I am so happy to find I am in good company for wearing comfy shoes. :) And those little feet are adorable!

Molly, you've got GREAT feet!

Ugh...I have BUNIONS! Not terrible ones, but if I don't find shoes that are comfortable, I pay for it...over and over and over. Pedicures are something I try to have every few months, less so for the indulgence and "prettiness" but more so to keep my feet in shape...otherwise, my heels are WRETCHED!

I never wear shoes at home; in the winter, just heavy socks. Crocs are wonderful--and fun. Some people don't understand the plastic, to me, they fit well and give me plenty of room to move around :).

Pretty OPI color and when you dress your feet up, you are REALLY stylin', Girlie-Q :).

Tiggerlane said...

LOVE the OPI pedicure! I need mine done desperately.

My feet hurt, too, and someday, I know I'll pay for my vanity and heels in a big way. I'm just too stubborn to be that practical, and too young to have the wisdom to stop my addiction to heels.

Hmmmm!

Your feet look beautiful. I didn't show mine because they are all dry and cracked at the moment. Time for some TLC for me. Your shoes all look really comfortable.

Thanks for visiting my blog. :)

Happy Monday

Robin

I love your OPI color. Perty. And, I so understand the need for Crocs. Love them!

I've got wide feet myself. Recently a friend that works for Nike sent me a very, very nice free pair of running shoes that killed my fat feet. I never said so, but I soldiered through a painful stretching out period. they fit well now. i feel your fat feet pain. stay strong sister

Gotta love the Teva's!!

I've seen a lot of Crocs posted today, but your the lucky one to get the question I have been meaning to ask!! Do your feet sweat in those?? I know there are a lot of vent holes, but still... with my sweaty, stinky feet... the Crocs would never stand a chance!! ;-)

I loved my saddle shoes!!

Molly said...

Jen M. - The wallpaper was hideous and dark green.

Captain Corky - I guess that you need to chew some more gum.

Jodi- I have not noticed a stinky feet problem with the Crocs. They do have those holes for aeration. Plus, since I wear my in the winter, I am wearing socks with my Crocs.

My feet have hurt me most of my life. I finally started seeing a foot doctor last year and found out the right kind of shoes for me to wear and where to buy them. I think we tend to take feet for granted.

Kaytabug said...

Oh my! I love those last ones! They look so nice on you!! You have pretty feet! I love that OPI color. I really really like those Teva sandlas...I think I need a pair!

Kaytabug said...

comfy? nothing is comfy after wearing Crocs...You know I will wear them tomorrow and get back to you. I wouldn't want to lead you astray. My right foot is slightly thicker than my left so those criss cross straps that go over the top of the foot kinda hurt my rt foot. You can always walk around the house in them to try them out...and send them back if you don't like how they feel.
I wouldn't run errands in them..or work...but thats just me...I am super spoiled by my crocs!

Unknown said...

I LOVE your satin heeled sandals!! gorgeous!!

Aww, memories -- I used to wear penny loafers at school. And I loved them too.

Jenni said...

I love those Tevas. I may get some like that to replace my favorite sandals that should really not ever be worn in public again.

Princess Jewelee said...

Some people wear many hats, you wear many shoes.....gotta love grandma time. Thanks for sharing.

bichonpawz said...

Whoa! Your pedicure rocks!! I have alot of problems with my feet and after foot surgery can't wear anything really cute. :( I tried Teva's but they didn't work for me. Tried orthotics. Didn't work. Wolky's were pretty good. So, even though the look of Crocs aren't the best looking, at least they are comfortable! Happy Monday!!

I go for comfort also. I found that the chiropractor helped with my feet. He did some leg adjustments as I was having trouble walking after going for a walk, then after skiing once, I felt like there was a kink in my foot and it hurt whenever I got up from sitting. He adjusted it and it felt better. It took a couple of times, but I haven't had a problem with it since, and haven't been back to the chiropractor since spring. I also had heal spurs so need to have cushy shoes for inside on the ceramic tiles.

I used to have saddle shoes that I hated. I like the way they look now, so we should form our own little old ladies in saddle shoes club.
Love those flippers with the criss-cross straps!

Love that color of polish. Your feet don't look fat to me. I tried but just don't like Crocs. They sit in a pile on the porch waiting for me.I just walk on by.

Fun post. I love those black sandals. I think most all us women over 50 had saddle shoes ... I hated them

Wow, crocs look comfy and lots of nurses wear them to work too. Here, they are 49 dollars AU for kids' crocs and about 59 for adults I believe. There are some from Target though, they look the same, and are less expensive.
For work, I wear Rockports.

My most memorable pair of shoes were big, black, lace-up and corrective. Having been told that I was flat footed, my mom had me fitted for them during sixth grade. They didn't go very well with aqua fishnet stockings.
